Prague to celebrate 650th. anniversary of Charles Bridge
Czech King Charles IV. placed the first stone exactly on the 9th. July 1357 at 5:31 a.m. The timing of that event was far from a chance occurrence as the date corresponds to the sequence of ascending and descending odd digits: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 7, 5, 3, 1. Charles Bridge is the oldest bridge in Prague, it is 515 m long and 9,5 m wide. The Bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries and protected by three bridge towers - two of them on the Lesser Quarter side (Malostranská mostecká věž) and the third one on the Old Town side (Staroměstská mostecká věž).The imposing celebrations will be held from July 6 to July 9 2007. Visitors can experience medieval knight tournaments, listen to medieval music, visit typical medieval markets etc. There will be a historical parade from the Old Town Square to Charles Bridge where Emperor Charles IV. will place again the first stone. The celebrations are going to take place not only on the Bridge, but also in its close surroundings - for example in Kampa, on the Křižovnický square, on the Novotný's footbridge or directly on Vltava river on a floating stage where many concerts are going to take place. Individual projects, such as theatre performances, music concerts, art performances or visual animations should represent various periods from Medieval Times up to the present.
